Urban Architectural Routes (7/2025)

Hellenic Post issues on September 17, 2025, the Commemorative Stamp Series titled "Urban Architectural Routes", which includes four stamps.
The Weiler Building, designed by Bavarian military engineer Wilhelm von Weiler, stands as one of the first public buildings constructed after Athens became the capital of Greece. The New Acropolis Museum, inaugurated in 2009, is the result of an international architectural competition and was designed by Bernard Tschumi and Michalis Fotiadis. The Small Apartment Building, a refined example of Athenian modernism from the 1930s, was designed by Vassilios Kouremenos, a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts. Saint Demetrios Loumbardiaris, a 16th-century chapel perched on the central path of Philopappos Hill, was restored by Dimitris Pikionis during his landscaping of the Acropolis surroundings (1954–1957).
Though born of different eras and aesthetics, these four structures engage in a silent dialogue. Together, they trace the evolution of Athens—from its 19th-century rebirth as a capital to its present-day identity as a vibrant Mediterranean metropolis.
