“EUROPA 2026 – 70th anniversary of EUROPA Stamps” (4/2026)

He explains his vision as follows:
“The turbulent times in the world bring the pronounced need for peace and unifying community spirit, but also reliable communication systems. A well-operating national postal service system can even be seen as a fundamental asset for democracies to work and bring security to their citizens. It was an honor to take part of this design competition and be able to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the PostEurop organization through this small piece of graphic art. As a designer, it is just magnificent that it will be printed and published in so many European countries and spread all over the world.
At the beginning of the design phase, I made several visual approach lines for the stamp. With Tommi Kantola, the design manager of the Finnish postal service, we continued developing one of them. With over two decades of excellent collaboration in over a hundred and twenty stamp design projects, the cooperation with Tommi led to the final, winning proposal.
The design of the 2026 EUROPA Stamp consists of an abstract approach with symbolic dimensions. The diagonally ascendant dotted line represents the perforation of a stamp block but also the progressive work of the European Postal Association. The seven dots—connected with a straight line—stand for the seventy-year-long unified work of the postal operators in the continent. The mixing gradients and dotted patterns in the background make a solid, unified surface and a joyful mix of European flag colours symbolizing all nations in the association.”
